The Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative (DASURECO), in collaboration with the Municipal Government of Malita, conducted its mangrove planting this morning in celebration of the 14th National Electrification Awareness Month (NEAM) this August.
DASURECO’s adopted site in Sitio Bankerohan, Barangay Fishing Village, Malita, Davao Occidental was planted with 300 mangrove seedlings together with the personnel from the Municipal Agriculture Office and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.
“This partnership will bring us to more initiatives. Dako kaayo ug kahigayunan ug oportunidad nga makahimo ug partnership, sama sa DASURECO, sa pagpanalipod, pagprotekta, ug pagpreserba sa atong kinaiyahan,” said MENR Officer Roberto A. Daligdig during his message as representative of the Honorable Malita Mayor Bradly L. Bautista.
The reforestation within the mangrove rehabilitation site is pursued to restore the mangrove ecosystem and protect coastal communities from intense flooding, devastating storm surges and other threats of climate change.
DASURECO GM Jerry D. Morastil urged employees and the community towards environmental stewardship and even encouraged the disuse of plastics to lessen pollution affecting our marine environment.
Joining in the successful implementation of the project are Malita/Don Marcelino/JAS/Sarangani District Director Shiela Colina-Nugas; Mangrove Nursery In-Charge Mosahari Sayadi; and representatives from the Municipal Agriculture Office and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.
This project of the DASURECO is part of its annual commitment on environmental protection and preservation dubbed as Pledge to Protect.
