Aid to calamity, one of DASURECO’s active response to affected MCOs

Director Al D. Castillon together with OIC GM Danny Canastra distributed ready-to-eat food packs to 200 individuals in Barangay Balutakay, Hagonoy.

DASURECO provided relief goods to hundreds of families in Digos and Hagonoy districts affected by flood on the night of June 28, 2020.

As mentioned by OIC General Manager Ferdinand D. Canastra during the relief operation in Barangay Balutakay, Hagonoy where 200 people received food packs, DASURECO is committed to provide prompt assistance to victims affected by flood. It has not been easy for them especially in the restoration of their homes, hence looking into the welfare of its member-consumer-owners is one of the EC’s role.

Additionally, DASURECO has extended its assistance through relief goods and ready-to-eat food packs distribution to 732 individuals and 185 families in the affected communities within Digos City and Hagonoy.

The DASURECO Warriors of Light together with the CDRRMC Staff

DASURECO employees, so called Warriors of Light, donated used clothing, bedding, home essentials, and other goods to affected families through the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) for proper distribution.

Aid to calamity is one of DASURECO’s social responsibility programs along with the rationale of the One EC Network foundation which addresses the socio-economic-cultural programs to uplift the economic well-being of the EC’s member-consumer-owners (MCOs).###

Over 102,000 lifeline consumers free of electricity

Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DASURECO) heeds the call of the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association, Inc. (PHILRECA) and the National Association of General Managers of Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (NAGMEC) to provide subsidy to marginalized electricity consumers following the government’s strict implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

The program which targets lifeline consumers in the country whose income and livelihood was affected by the pandemic is dubbed as ‘Pantawid Liwanag’. It is a corporate social responsibility program of the electric cooperatives, under the umbrella of PHILRECA, in response to the government’s effort to curb the impact of the pandemic through Republic Act No. 11469 or the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act”.

In support to this call, DASURECO’s Board of Directors headed by Director Rodrigo B. Sacedor together with the management endeavored to free its lifeline residential consumers consuming 30 kilowatt-hours and below of up to two (2) months billing period, March and April 2020. A total of 53,564 lifeline residential consumers were given subsidy for March billing period and 49,116 on April. DASURECO was able to allocate almost 8 million pesos to 102,680 lifeline residential consumers with over 1.3 million kilowatts used within two months.

The subsidy fund for the ‘Pantawid Liwanag’ program was sourced out from the allocated budget for institutional activities like the Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA), district conventions, and others which were cancelled due to COVID-19 outbreak.

As of this writing, DASURECO has not implemented disconnection since March to alleviate the consumers’ plight amid this pandemic. ###

DASURECO moves for line clearing downloading

Area Services Department Manager Engr. Jerry D. Morastil takes the lead in the implementation of line clearing to the NCECCO-barangay chapters of Kiblawan District

The Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DASURECO) is determined to download line clearing works to its organized NCECCO barangays with Kiblawan District as the pilot area.

DASURECO Area Services Manager Engr. Jerry D. Morastil spearheaded the conduct of the NCECCO Line Clearing Trainers’ Training to 31 barangay chairmen of NCECCO or National Center of Electric Cooperative Consumers, Inc. in Kiblawan district on May 13, 2020 at its Barangay Poblacion Gymnasium.

Acknowledging the constant problem in our power distribution lines due to vegetation, DASURECO sees it apt to partner with NCECCOs and have them part of the ECs manpower. Engr. Morastil discussed the process flow, standards, and legal basis of implementation of the line clearing scheme, including the rates they are expected to receive in doing the job.

“Ihatag sa inyo ang katungdanan sa pag-implementar sa line clearing. You are now part of the movement of the electric cooperative… the movement of the NCECCO.”OIC GM Ferdinand D. Canastra said.

The downloading of line clearing to the barangay level is considered an effective way to lessen system loss and prevent interrupted supply of power to the end-users. On August 8, 2019, President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law the Republic Act 11361 or the Anti-Obstruction of Power Lines Act which ensures uninterrupted supply of power and protects the power lines by prohibiting the planting of tall trees, construction of hazardous improvements, and conduct of hazardous activities within the power line corridor.

NCECCO National Chairman and DASURECO Board President Rodrigo B. Sacedor emphasized the vital contribution of the movement towards the success of the electric cooperative’s programs besides having a sustainable income augmentation for the organized barangay chapters.

Mobilizing our NCECCO chapters is the third phase of the Empower-Organize-Mobilize (EOM) strategy under the Member-Consumer-Owners Program for Empowerment (MCOPE) which was authored by NEA Administrator Edgardo R. Masongsong.

DASURECO has mobilized four (4) districts under Collection Downloading scheme piloting in Matanao, Magsaysay, Sulop, and Sta. Maria.###
