The Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. joins the nation in recognizing this year’s Women’s Month with a theme, “We make change work for women” on March 8, 2018.

A thorough understanding of sex trafficking and prostitution through a documentary entitled “Bibili ka ba?”

A film entitled “Bibili ka ba?” which documents the plight of prostituted and trafficked women was shown to the Coop employees and work immersion students from the Holy Cross of Digos, Inc.

To make the event successful, DASURECO tapped the Talikala Foundation, Inc. –a nongovernment organization run by women for women in Davao City. This foundation offers support, trainings, and counseling to women and children who have been forced into sex trafficking and prostitution.

Ms. Carina Sajonia from the Talikala Foundation, Inc. discusses the creation and purpose of the said organization

Lory, a prostituted woman, shared her struggles and feats in battling with the horrors of her past. Her testimony served as an avenue to better understand why such problem still exists amid many ways to prevent such. This also widened one’s perception of a person who persevered to rise amid discrimination and neglect.

After which, a forum was facilitated by Ms. Carina Sajonia from the Talikala Foundation, Inc. which invited questions especially from the students.

The opportunity for another means of community development was accepted by DASURECO as it not only gives light to the community but also provides them income augmentation through a highly advanced method of abaca and corn crop processing in Sitio New Mabuhay and Sitio Mahayag respectively.

Also present were Mr. Richard Flores-NEA representative, Mr. Ally P. Fernandez – representative from LGU-Don Marcelino, Mr. Ferdinand D. Atty. Rhett Roswell F. Mislang, the ERC hearing officer

The said application witnessed by Engr. Jerry D. Morastil and Engr. Theresa Luzano from DASURECO and Mr. Joseph C. Nocos from MPI was heard by Atty. Rhett Roswell F. Mislang from the Energy Regulatory Commission.

MPI has supplied 15 megawatts of diesel-fuel generator set to DASURECO under the power sales agreement on October 16, 2013 however the peaking demand for electricity necessitates the electric distribution utility to procure for additional power supply, which would also result in a downward adjustment of over 10 centavos per kilowatt-hour in DASURECO’s total generation cost.
